Fire Stopping Products and life safety duct workFirestops are specifically designed to stop smoke, toxic fumes, super-heated gases, and fire from spreading from one room to another, or from one floor to another. Firestops are used to restore the entire structure, via each individually penetrated partition, to its original fire-rated integrity. For example, if there's a grease fire in a kitchen, heavy rated black iron duct work in the exhaust must contain it for up to two hours by law, so that firefighters have plenty of time to evacuate everyone and attack the fire. Firestop insulation is available in a range of products to accommodate the multitude of different types of penetrating items passing through the different size openings. Our firestopping insulation - thermal ceramics and 3M - is installed in strict accordance with local and state building codes and National Fire protection (NFPA) guidelines. Life Safety Ductwork is stairway pressurization ductwork with a two hour fire rating. This type of duct insulation pressurizes stairwells, so in a fire emergency, if a door is opened, the stairwell doesn't fill with smoke, air actually blows into the hallway of the floor, to prevent smoke filling the stairwell. |
